Hey guys, I tried to upgrade my motherboard...but I can't get it to run at all. The Pc doesn't even get past the Initial startup it says "No Hard Disk Detected"

I know you can Reinstall the OS and the Motherboard would be fine but, I don't want to delete the files that I have on my pc :/ plus I would Have to buy the Windows 7 OS. So is there any way I can Install my New Motherboard (msi 870A Fuzion) without having to completely Reinstall the Windows 7 OS?

also I am able to access the internet thanks to something that comes on the Mobo. (Winki msi) or something, But I can't play anything else No movies, No Games, Nothing Sad

Upgrade your BIOS and while upgrading turn off your power... that'll help Cool

Is the HDD IDE or SATA? If it's SATA you should plug it in the SATA1 port on the motherboard. If it's IDE, check the drive for jumper settings and set it to Master. Then check your DVD-RW (or other optical drive) and put it to SATA2 or if it's IDE, Slave.
BIOS updating is required only when you want to put an unsupported CPU which became supported in a newer BIOS revision.
Buying Windows? There are better options. Wink
MSI motherboards aren't high quality ones. Razz

This is a simple problem. All you need is to set the drive as the first one and set SATA mode from AHCI to IDE (Compatibility).

well, I only use that one Hard Drive and it is set as the master...also the controllers are set to IDE. (I checked both of this)

When I boot it shows the Widows 7 Logo but, it immediately Reboots...and its not my Powersupply either so...this is some BS going on.

Try downloading and installing Tiny7 or MicroXP. These have all the crap taken out and actually perform decently (except security vulnerabilities that plague all the Windows versions).

Does holding down F8 when Windows begins loading still show the Startup Options screen? If it does, and that works Soge, try the Safe Mode option and see if that gets you any further.

Thanks Shai, I have tried this with the XP OS and the Windows 7 OS...with The XP OS I enter in Safe mode with Networking and I Can actually see everything but, as fate would have it I can't do anything because I don't have a mouse or keyboard that I can use without installing the Drivers first (They are Wireless)

With windows 7 (the One I want) I get all of those options, but when It begins to run it just shuts off this is very frustrating.

and there is not even an error message or anything I can go by.

Hmm. There are tons of Google hits for sort-of related topics, but I won't pretend to know which might be relevant. This caught my eye though:

Quote :

Letís s lean how to stop Windows 7 reboot loop thanks to a little trick!

1. When your computer starts its next reboot (black screen), just hit F8 on your keyboard a lot of times till you get the Advanced Boot Options screen.

2. Now, with your arrow keys, select Disable automatic restart on system failure and press Enter.

...from here: http://www.webtlk.com/2009/07/02/how-to-stop-windows-7-reboot-loop/
It doesn't say what you're likely to encounter after that, but perhaps it would Blue Screen on you, so you'd get an ERROR_CODE you could write down and look for on Google?

Thanks Shai, and that's one of the things that is annoying me to no end. There is actually no error code or anything. I don't get a blue screen, it just restarts.

Oh well, if I can't fix it I would have to wait a bit so I can buy the OS. :/

Oh, I remember. Windows versions newer than 9x don't work after changing the motherboard. That includes XP and 7. They incorporated a "feature" that's actually a nuisance if you need to change the motherboard, as the OS "thinks" it's a totally new PC. Standard versions of Windows are worse than tweaked ones performance and stability-wise, and the tweaked ones have that "feature" removed. I'd recommend installing Tiny7.

Thank you for your help shadow. I just remembered something. My brother actually has a Pc that is the same make, Model, OS and everything is the same...(we bought it at the same store around the same time)

anyway, I'll ask him for his Modem to see if I can download the Drivers and everything else I need for the Motherboard to run correctly to my HDD with Windows 7. Man I hope this works out.

Best of luck Soge.

Shadow, you're right, but - and I could be completely wrong - I vaguely seem to remember that if the OS detects modified components it will boot to a point where you'll be prompted to enter a new license. I'm happy to corrected Wink

If you can't get Windows to tell you what's wrong, and you don't get any further, it might be worth unplugging all of the components and then re-trying them one at a time. Mind you, almost everything is built into the motherboard these days, so that probably doesn't leave you with a lot of scope. If you've got more than one module of RAM, though, for instance, perhaps try taking out all but a single 'stick' to see whether one of them is acting up, or improperly inserted or something.
Are all of the fans running OK?

I need to point this out. After changing the motherboard or CPU, the OS needs to be reinstalled. It's neither a driver nor a hardware failure problem, simply because you changed the motherboard, Windows refuses to boot as it detects different hardware. Just reinstall Windows and it should be fine.

Thank you, I knew that re-installing the OS would fix it...but I was hoping for another way of fixing this.

I guess am just going to have to wait so that I can buy the OS, which is something I really don't want to do. oh well, it has to be done it seems.
